A Cloud Cost Engineer (CCE) is where FinOps meets DevOps. Using their knowledge of cloud infrastructure and application workloads, they provide cost optimization tools and strategies to help AWS customers run efficient workloads, innovate their products and accelerate growth without breaking the bank.
A CCE:
Manages cost by developing and eventually architecting projects that are intended to adjust areas of spend so they are optimized or simply go away.You will be meeting with clients to share results and outline projects and next steps.
Spends much of their time logged into and analyzing a variety of AWS Accounts.
Often starts with the AWS Billing and Cost Explorer interfaces, and uses those to dive into the underlying AWS services, identifying and understanding the fine details of particular workloads.
Summarizes and prepares presentations for findings using Excel/Google Sheets and Powerpoint/Google Slides.
Will be continuing to learn about all the nuances associated with cloud spend.
May build and leverage tooling that assists with specific cost-related findings. You will deepen your technical skill set to help achieve these goals. The skills can vary, but will involve some basic python development, shell scripting, likely some template work (could be CloudFormation or Terraform-based…whatever the solutions for clients may need).

Ideally, you are somewhere in the US time zone equivalent, but otherwise it doesn't matter where you live. You just need to have excellent communication skills to work with North American clients.
You may notice that there is no mention of years of experience. That's because I'm casting a wide net. If you are relatively new to the cloud, love the idea of working with multiple companies, learning every day and growing your skills (both technical and strategic), there's plenty to do and learn. I expect that the right person will very quickly find other areas of responsibility to own, and numerous growth opportunities will exist.
Compensation details:
Salary: $60 - $90k. Opportunity will exist for profit sharing.
